JAECOO has celebrated two years in South Africa, an important milestone in the brand’s local journey since entering the market in April 2024 with the launch of the J7. Since its local debut, the automaker has steadily built momentum in South Africa, growing from a single-model introduction into a broader product offering that now includes the J7 SHS plug-in hybrid and the compact J5.

During that time, the brand recorded combined sales of 6,304 units, underlining its growing appeal among South African motorists. JAECOO entered the local market with the stylish and feature-packed J7, a model that introduced customers to the brand’s distinctive blend of premium design, advanced technology, and everyday versatility. The J7 established a strong foundation for the brand, offering a fresh take on the SUV segment with a bold design language and generous specification, regardless of the trim.

The range expanded in 2025 with the introduction of the J7 SHS, the marque’s first plug-in hybrid SUV in South Africa. Equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, the J7 SHS delivers combined outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque. It also offers an all-electric range of up to 90 km and a total combined range of more than 1,200 km, giving customers a compelling balance of performance and long-distance usability.

Later in 2025, JAECOO broadened its lineup with the introduction of the J5, a compact SUV that brought the brand’s premium adventure positioning within further reach of even more local consumers. Offered as a more accessible and compact alternative to the J7, the J5 retained the design and feature-rich appeal that have become central to the brand’s identity.

Looking ahead, JAECOO is preparing to expand its electrified offering again with the upcoming J5 HEV, which is set to join the range this year. As the next step in the marque’s electrification journey, the J5 HEV is expected to bring hybrid efficiency and performance to a broader audience. With fuel consumption as low as 5.3L/100 km and a range of more than 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel, the upcoming addition will further strengthen JAECOO’s credentials in South Africa.

Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, said, “The J7 gave us a strong starting point, while the J7 SHS and J5 have allowed us to broaden our appeal even further. And with the introduction of the J5 HEV later this year, we are excited about the next phase of JAECOO’s journey in South Africa.”

JAECOO’s progress in South Africa reflects a strategy centred on combining distinctive design, modern technology and a product line-up that continues to evolve alongside customer needs. With a growing presence in the market and a range that will soon span petrol, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid mobility, the brand enters its next chapter in South Africa with strong momentum and a clear focus on continued growth.
